This continues to be an extremely challenging time to be a school social worker. New details continue to emerge about the troubling events in Newport News, VA when a 6-year-old shot his teacher at school, and each news item reminds us of the risks that we face everyday working in schools. While many of us are school social workers because school is where we have found our path to service, our desire and ethical obligation to serve doesn’t make the risk acceptable or less frightening and confusing.

We are offering a space for our SSWA DC members to speak with each other about these troubling recent events and share thoughts, fears, plans, etc.
