School Mental Health Consultation: Theory and Practice

  • 29 Apr 2023
  • 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM (EDT)
  • Virtual Conference

Registration

Presenter: Christine Anlauf Sabatino, Ph.D.

Many professionals assume that experience in a particular field is adequate preparation to serve as a consultant, but training in one’s own profession does not fully equip someone to understand the distinctive functions of consultation and the boundaries of the consultant’s role. Helping others with their work is a far more intricate process than working directly with one’s own clients, and school social workers experience this challenge on a daily basis while supporting other school staff members around student mental health needs.

In this workshop, participants will gain a rich understanding of school mental health consultation services, examining its specialized problem formulation, outcome goals, methods of intervention, and underlying theoretical foundation, After this presentation, school social workers should feel more equipped to expand school personnel’s understanding of the social and emotional components of the teaching-learning process that impede academic success.

This workshop is approved for 2 continuing education units by the DC Health Board of Social Work and the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
