Presenter: Meagan Mitchell, LICSW, MSW, MEd
Technology is rapidly changing the way we live, work and interact with one another. The social work profession is no exception, and technology is an important part of life for social work clients of all ages. From virtual sessions to online case management to mobile apps for service delivery, technology is becoming an increasingly integral part of how social workers deliver care. This presents ethical concerns and potential challenges ranging from issues of privacy to access.
Technology is changing the way we think about the communities we serve, the way we communicate and connect with clients and how we advocate for social justice. In this presentation, we will take a closer look at how technology is impacting the field of social work, with a specific focus on the intersection of technology and schools. We will explore the opportunities and challenges that technology presents, specifically in the context of working with children and families in schools. We will also discuss how social workers can ensure that technology is used in a way that aligns with our values and ethical obligations while advancing the goals of the social work profession.
