Ever wanted to read and share ideas with your fellow school social workers but haven't found the motivation? We invite you to join us for our regular book club. The Fall assignment will be short, sweet, and tailored to the age group you work with to give you concrete ideas to take away.
If you work in early childhood or elementary, we know many of our students struggle with identifying their feelings appropriately and developing new ways of thinking. So we invite you to take a look at Glad Monster, Sad Monster. You will come away from book club with at least one tangible activity to pair with this book in your services (and you will get to take a look at some other relevant books at book club).
Available on Amazon or the DC Library.
If you work with middle schoolers and up, we invite you to read (or re-read) The Hate U Give. Come for a thoughtful discussion about how you can incorporate this book, movie, and its themes into your work with students.
Available on Amazon (paperback or kindle) or the DC Library.
5 chapters per week will keep you on track to finish by Book Club. However, completing the first four chapters will prepare you for the Book Club activities.
The School Social Work Association of Washington, DC will provide the space and snacks on November 14th. You just bring yourself!
Any questions or issues finding the book, please contact Allie Perez at allie.perez@appletreeinstitute.org.
